President’s Report

February 3, 2010

Grievances:  Our case regarding the three out of work title grievances were presented to the Hearing Officer on January 26th and 27th. We have generated a fourth Step III out of title grievance. This grievance is directed toward Single Supervisor  Stations or BBS. According to our job description the Captain is responsible for the everyday operations of an EMS Station. Therefore, leaving a Lieutenant to operate the everyday operations of a Station is out of title.

Chapter 96 Pension:  A bill is being drafted by Attorney Terry Meginniss. This bill will provide a refund for members that contributed into the Chapter 96 Pension Plan. Copies of the bill will be provided once it is introduced.

Work Chart:  The current work chart is Tour 1, 2 and 3. Platoons A, B, C and D. Any changes must be negotiated. Mixing and changing the work chart is a violation of our contract.

Pay Raises: There will be an increase in the RIP differential payments. Members with ten years or more in title will receive retroactive payments as well as the increase the second pay week of February.

Political Action: Members are needed February 6, 7, 8, and 9th for Political Action in the Brookhaven Town Democratic Committee HQ located at 757 Horseblock Rd. Farmingville, N.Y. 11738.

Our assistance is requested in the election campaign of Lauren Thoden for State Assembly. In these tough economic times it is imperative we support those that support us. Members that stay more than one day, will have meals and lodging provided for them by the Union.

EMT Melvin Malonado is the Political Action Coordinator his cell # is 646-662-9029. Members are urged to call the Union office or contact Bonnie Regan, Joe McWilliams or Mark Bonilla via the 800-pager system.

In Solidarity,

Vincent Variale
